Ongoing topography of Arizona
Petrified wood, lithic rock walls and refreshing waterfalls. An ancient land that was once covered in water millions of years ago but now has miles of desert. Everyday you pass coyotes, javelinas and hares. When you walk through the valley on a midsummers day, only the birds provide a temporary shade. In August, the monsoons come and you can see multiple storms happening in different places along the skyline. There is truly nothing like a high desert storm. Or the snow on the mountains in the winter. The summer air is light but chalky and intensely hot. You sweat without feeling it much. When I first moved here, I watched the sunset on the roof every single night I was home. I felt like i’d returned to roots I didn’t know I had.
And when I got in bed, around 10 pm, I’d hear the coyotes howl.
